Mdonya Old River Camp - Ruaha National Park, Tanzania
Great Game Viewing at a Great Value
Mdonya Old River is one of an endangered species itself, a true tented bush camp! It is a simple camp, not overdone with luxuries you do not need but rather ideally located for wonderful wildlife sightings at the edge of a sand-river that acts as an animal highway being used as a corridor by many species. The camp may not feature a spa as many ‘toney’ safari lodges now do but it does have game viewing hides at both ends of camp so that even during your relax time you may watch the wildlife common in the camp and visitors like elephants and buffalo are typical guests in camp.
Intimate Camp Setting at Mdonya Old River
Mdonya Old River Camp is limited to just 11 tents, keeping the camp intimate and the personalized service at a high level. Though basic the tents are good size and contain comfortable twin or double beds, as well as three tents that can be fitted as family tents. Bathrooms are ensuite with an open air shower and flush toilet. Tents are spaced for privacy and nestled under shade trees, each with a large veranda area to sit and enjoy the wild surroundings. Dinning and lounge areas are tents as well completing the vintage bush camp set up.
Daily Schedule at Mdonya
The camp schedule is flexible making activities the focus every day. Game drives are in open sided vehicles and limited to just four people per vehicle and guide guaranteeing ‘window’ seats for all. Typically there is a morning drive and afternoon drive but it is possible to pack a lunch and go for the entire day. Ruaha is also an awesome park to walk in and bush walks with a park ranger can be arranged. Fly camping is an exciting opportunity to get out far away from everyone and sleep in a remote location in a small special camp set up for just your party ($200 supplement per person).
