Madikwe Game Reserve Wildlife
Madikwe has become a reservoir for rare species, and is an excellent place to see rarities such as the African Wild Dog, brown hyena, and both white and black rhino. Big Five game viewing is possible, although leopard can be difficult to find but sightings are growing in frequency as more leopards are becoming habituated. The remaining members of Big Five - Elephant, Lion, and Cape Buffalo are all relatively easy to spot within the confines of Madikwe Game Reserve.

Madikwe History
In 1991, Madikwe Game reserve was formed on ranch lands that were no longer viable due to overgrazing by cattle. The reserve covers 76,000 hectacres, is fenced, and Madikwe is actually the 4th largest South African game reserve. Operation Phoenix featured the introduction of the rehabituation of wildlife to Madikwe Game Reserve. 27 total species were re-introduced with the rather large total of over 8,000 mammals. This reintroduction of wildlife not only helps with conservation efforts, but also in supporting the local economy.
