Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is located in the west central portion of Madikwe Game Reserve. This section of Madikwe Game Reserve generally sees less traffic than the eastern portion of the reserve and translates into a more secluded experience at Buffalo Ridge Lodge.
Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the Northwest Territory of South Africa and borders Botswana (see the map to the right).

Wildlife
As with other lodges within Madikwe Game Reserve, Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge provides access to see all of the Big 5 including cape buffalo, lions, leopard, elephant, and rhino. It should be noted that like in many safari areas, sometimes leopard can be a bit elusive to find. Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge also gives you access to a rare gem in the safari world - African Wild Dogs. African Wild Dogs can only be found in a handful of places in Africa - including Madikwe Game Reserve.

Accommodations
This is the first 100% community owned lodge in South Africa, owned and staffed by the Balete people from the neighboring village of Lekgophung. They have done an amazing job with the creation of their lodge and we were very impressed with their architecture, particularly the central lounge area that suspends on the hillside creating a spectacular tree house effect with huge views over the reserve. A stay at Buffalo Ridge is a fantastic experience and it is a great luxury value lodge within the Madikwe Game Reserve.
The lodge has 8 chalets, each with a private viewing deck, decorated in natural hues of color and texture, offering a very private and comfortably luxurious experience. The chalets have en-suite bathrooms and showers, with sliding doors from both the bedroom and bathroom areas. The chalets are elegantly designed and well constructed, there are glass and screen sliding doors which is nice to keep insects out but let the sounds and smells of the bush in. The chalets feature black and white photos of people in the village doing their daily activities, which is a nice way to tie in the community and gives the chalets a modern chic kind of décor.
Food is stellar at Buffalo Ridge and a private dinner in a boma under the stars can be arranged. There is a surprisingly long swimming pool with amazing elevated views of Madikwe. Cultural visits to the town can be arranged as a unique experience from Buffalo Ridge. The lodge is set in the far west of the reserve and this area seems to be more remote with less vehicle traffic than the eastern portion of Madikwe.
