There is no doubt that most clients of The Wild Source are focusing on safari but often times they want to pursue other activities in the lovely Cape Region of South Africa and we are able to plan extraordinary adventures around Cape Town and along the famed Garden Route too. Some of these still focus on unique wildlife experiences but also other activities to take in culture, the outdoors and even gourmet delights. There is so much to do but also many spectacular places to slow down and relax and take in the beauty.

Cage diving with Great White Sharks is a thrilling way to explore the ocean environment of South Africa’s Cape.

Wild Source clients Alissa and Josh from Denver have just returned from a nine night self-driving South Africa adventure celebrating their anniversary. Their trip was designed to take in the variety of the Cape region with an emphasis on outdoor adventure and small boutique guest houses where they could relax and enjoy the tastes and atmosphere of the towns. They have wonderful photos that really capture the essence of this region and they have been kind enough to share in this brief pictorial of some of the highlights.

First stop was the Winelands with relaxed visits to 5 vineyards sampling the excellent South African wines and taking in the breath taking scenery.

The quaint village of Franschhoek in the Winelands is famed for being the gourmet capital of South Africa and dining is definitely one of the highlights of a trip in this region.

Even a man from Louisiana is impressed with the crayfish and porkbelly dish at Bon Vivant.

Moving east along the coast includes lots of beaches and picturesque little towns. Wonderful driving and welcoming places to stop like Wilderness and Knysna.

Successful whale watching from the charming beach hamlet of Knysna. Southern right whales are endangered and often very engaging with boats coming to perform.

At the far east of their route Alissa and Josh visited the Kwandwe Game Reserve for a 2 night safari at Great Fish River Lodge. Here Josh took the trackers seat to spot some big game.

Kwandwe produced some outstanding sightings, including a huge male lion who roared for them, three cheetah, white rhino, elephants, oryx, springbok, zebras and much more.

From safari Alissa and Josh flew back to Cape Town to maximize their time. One unforgettable excursion from Cape Town was to go out on a boat and into a diving cage to see great white sharks up close!

Exploring the waterfront and other neighborhoods of Cape Town is fabulous, it is definitely one of the finest cities in the world.

A visit to Cape Point takes you to the end of Africa with amazing views of the waters surrounding the Cape of Good Hope.
This is just a small sampling of what can be experienced in the Cape Region. Vintage train rides, kayaking, biking, hiking, museums, township visits, ostrich farms, hot air balloons, and much, much more are all possible in this diverse region. Thanks to Alissa and Josh for contributing their outstanding photos!
