Journaling Safari Day 12: Red Eye from Johannesburg

Wednesday, 3 February 2010 23:03 by BillGiven

The Botswana portion of the safari has now concluded. Bill has now moved on to Johannesburg where he'll take a small breather before moving on to Kenya for multiple days at two separate regions within the country.

Johannesburg Airport

No rest for Bill on this portion of the trip. He arrives at the airport at 5pm, then turns right around and flies to Kenya a mere seven hours later. The good news is that Bill should have Internet access while at the airport. This means he should have no trouble sending us a recap of the Botswana portion of the Journaling Safari 2010 - including photos.

Next up: Ol Donyo Wuas in Kenya - to see all of the destinations on the 2010 journaling safari, see the itinerary and map (both below).

Journaling Safari Day 1: Johannesburg Layover

Saturday, 23 January 2010 12:48 by BillGiven

On January 20th, Bill touched down in Johannesburg for a layover before really kicking off the 2010 Journaling safari. This is the typical pattern for Bill. He leaves Denver, connects in Atlanta and finishes his flight in Johannesburg. For most safaris to southern Africa, Johannesburg is the destination of choice for an overnight to acclimate to the time change. The next morning, he's usually off to his first safari destination. This is what happened on this safari as well - after spending the night of the 20th in Johannesburg, he moved on to Selinda Camp where he is now.

Airport Grand Hotel, Johannesburg

This is the hotel where Bill spend the night on the 20th. The Airport Grand Hotel features 149 rooms and convenient access to the airport. Amenities include luxury rooms, gym, pool, and wireless Internet Access.

Next up: Sankuyo Bush Camp - to see all of the destinations on the 2010 journaling safari, see the itinerary and map (both below).

Walk On the Wild Side Safari - Johannesburg

Sunday, 4 October 2009 08:41 by webmaster

Bill has now officially kicked off his African Safari and is in Johannesburg, South Africa. Today features a day and an overnight in Johannesburg to try to adjust to the local time after a red eye that left the United States from Atlanta, Georgia.

Accommodations feature his typical jumping off point in Johannesburg - the Peermont Metcourt Hotel at Emperor's palace. A photo of accommodations is shown below. The Peermont Metcourt is a three star hotel in South Africa that was originally built by Caesar's Palace. Following the overnight in Johannesburg, Bill and his group will be leaving early the next morning for the flight to Zambia.
