Namibia Safaris Overview
Namibia is really a special destination as it has some of the most dramatic scenery in Africa with the Namib desert pushing against the cold Atlantic ocean coastline. The Skeleton Coast is one of the most desolate and remote places on earth and the red sand dunes at Sossusvlei are one of the most spectacular scenic areas on the planet. Etosha National Park is one of the finest parks in the world and is a top shelf safari destination. In general though Namibia is best for its scenic landscape and specialties like desert adapted elephant. Although Etosha offers an excellent game viewing experience other safari locations are more suited for first time safari goers who expect to see diverse and plentiful animals. Many roads are well maintained and there are not that many of them making it a perfect destination for the first time self-driver on safari.
*There is an added cost of a flight to transfer but it is easily possible to combine Namibia with a more traditional safari in Botswana or South Africa if the landscape and remoteness are of great interest.

Namib Desert
The site of amazing red sand dunes that are the highest in the world. Wildlife is not diverse but there are some amazing creatures that do thrive in this area including a few spectacular antelope species, the oryx and springbok.
Skeleton Coast
Miles and miles of desolate beach and dune areas amongst the most remote wildernesses left on earth. A cursory experience can be had by car but to truly experience the depth of the wilderness it is necessary to fly in to a special camp. Here it is possible to visit enormous seal colonies, find shipwrecks, and spot other surprising creatures of the coastal desert. You can also visit the Himba people who still live in traditional ways, a fascinating look into another culture.
Etosha National Park
This is a vast park jammed with wildlife including lions, elephants, and rhinos. This park is very dry and wildlife congregates at waterholes
making it possible to view the interactions of 8 or more species at one time. Because it is a national park travel is restricted to roadways and there is potential for some crowding at sightings. The in park campgrounds have excellent night time sightings and this is a great location for a value safari. Also, a terrific place to find animals without a guide.
Damaraland
This is a unique area of high desert area mixed with mountains and crumbled rock with large succulent plants reminiscent of cactuses. This area has desert adapted elephant that can be observed at close quarters. It is fascinating to see how delicate they are with their environment compared to elephants in other more lush areas. There is also an excellent area to track desert adapted black rhino.
