Liuwa Plain National Park
Think of a Serengeti like expanse of flat, wide open plains teeming with great herds of grazers to the horizon. That’s the scene at Liuwa Plain National Park - a remote park in the far west of Zamiba near the Anglola border. During May/June and November/December a congregation of more than 30,000 wildebeest pour in accompanied by zebra, red lechwe, buffalo, eland, and much more.

Over time the lion population in Liuwa Plain National Park dropped to just one lioness, known as Lady Liuwa. Subsequently two males were introduced but the park is a one of a kind location to have so much ungulate prey base and almost no lions. The result is spotted hyenas are the masters of these plains and with the open visibility it is a top location to see them in action. African wild dogs also benefit for the lack of lions and when seen hunting on the open plain it is an unrivaled sighting. Birding is exceptional.
There is only one tourism camp in the Liuwa Plain National Park, so Liuwa is a rare opportunity to basically have an entire national park and all its game to yourself.
