I'm Bill Given – Denver based wildlife biologist and safari guide. Based on your requirements I use my knowledge and experience to custom craft a Tanzania safari that will exceed your expectations.
Tanzania is astonishing for its enormous concentrations of wildlife, both with the great migration but also with buffalo and hippo in areas well off the beaten path. Featuring classic safari scenery and vintage tented camps, as well as accessible culture, Tanzania is an ideal safari destination.
Tanzania Safari Experience
I have had some of my most incredible wildlife sightings and intimate wilderness experiences in Tanzania. I’d rate Tanzania as one of the top two countries for wildlife viewing and although there are a few areas that suffer from crowding, there are still a lot of remote locations that are little used where true wilderness can be experienced by those who know where to be. The Serengeti herds of the great migration with the high densities of lion, spotted hyena, and cheetah that they support are rightly considered the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth. While the Serengeti is a place that everyone should visit in their lifetime, there are a number of parks that receive almost no visitation despite having huge densities of mega-fauna like lions, buffalo and hippos. Perhaps the most moving wildlife encounter possible is to come face to face with wild chimpanzees. Africa Geographic published an article written by me in December 2008 - The Power Behind The Throne - detailing the fascinating political workings of the chimp society that I observed in Tanzania.
Your Needs Are My Priority
My wildlife and science background ensure that I will put you in the best possible places to see the wildlife that you want to see on your Tanzania safari. Unfortunately the level of competency in guiding skills is far from consistent in East Africa, thus I have put an emphasis on identifying and forming relationships with outstanding guides to conduct safaris for my clients. This is a key element in finding your own incredible sightings within popular parks like the Serengeti, as opposed to just following radio calls from one crowded sighting to another as many guides do. Careful planning puts you in the ideal locations with the best camp atmospheres for enjoying the migration.
Tanzania has a full range of accommodations from extravagant luxury, to vintage seasonal tented camps to even large hotel-like properties. I can advise when it is vital to pay for location and when you can best save the budget with simpler lodging, and of course I can personalize your safari according your desired style and budget. I make sure you know what all the options are and help you craft the perfect mix of places and activities to create the ideal itinerary for your interests. I can also advise when it is wise to consider a different safari country for your needs or how to combine another location with Tanzania as appropriate to design the perfect trip.

Going on a Tanzania Safari requires an investment in both time and money. You need to be informed and know exactly what your options are.
There is no better way to get that information than for me to
bring my Introduction to Safari presentation to your home or other meeting location within Colorado. The presentation is highly informative and extremely entertaining.
Note: I bring the large predators and prey of the African Plains to life within your living room. For that reason, I ask that all small pets are kept away from the presentation area for their own safety.
Presentation Details
The presentation provides an overview of what you need to know about African safaris including:
- Countries - Overview of the amazing safari countries and the advantages and disadvantages of each
- Accommodations - from luxury lodging to sleeping under the stars
- Activities - safaris offer much more than amazing wildlife - I discuss the wide variety of activities available on safari, many of which you probably never even thought of
- Tanzania Wildlife - of course the major draw for safaris - I discuss what animals are where, and what destinations best match what you want to see
- Planning Your Tanzania Safari - Examine the factors to consider when planning your African Safari
- Tanzania Safari Life - Get a feel for the rhythm of daily life on safari and the wonderful local people
You'll find the presentation educational and entertaining - all slides are photos that I have taken during my many trips to Africa - both as a tourist and a guide.
I encourage you to contact me using the form above - no matter where you are in the safari planning process. I'd be happy to provide a presentation - or to answer any safari related questions that you may have.
